What is Dermapen microneedling?

Microneedling is also called collagen induction therapy. The small channels it makes start the skin’s natural healing process, and during healing the skin makes more collagen and elastin. Over time this can make the skin smoother and firmer.

Dermapen is a pen-shaped device with very fine needles that move up and down. The doctor can set the depth for each area of the face. This gives more control than a hand roller.

Microneedling for acne scars

What are AQ growth factors?

AQ growth factor therapy (GFIT) uses a serum of growth factors. These are proteins similar to the ones the skin uses to signal repair. Right after microneedling, the serum is applied so it can reach the small channels in the skin. It is used to support healing and the results of microneedling. Our doctor will tell you if adding AQ growth factors makes sense for your skin.

What happens during my treatment?

2. Cleansing and numbing cream.
3. Microneedling with Dermapen, with the depth set for each area.
4. AQ growth factor serum, if it is part of your plan.
5. A calming mask to reduce redness.
6. Aftercare advice and product suggestions for home.

A session usually takes 30 to 45 minutes.

How many sessions do I need?

For mild concerns, most people need 3 to 4 sessions. For acne scars or deeper lines, 5 to 6 sessions are common. Sessions are usually 4 to 6 weeks apart, and a top-up every 4 to 6 months helps keep the results. Collagen keeps building for weeks after each session, so results improve over the course.

After your treatment

Your skin may be red, a little swollen and sensitive for 24 to 48 hours, like mild sunburn.

• Avoid makeup for 24 hours.
• Avoid sun, heavy exercise, sauna and steam for 24 to 48 hours.
• Avoid retinol, AHA and BHA products for 3 to 5 days.
• Use a gentle cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen.
